WordPress Parent Automattic Buys Polling Site PollDaddy

PollDaddy was never related to GoDaddy, but now it is part of the WordPress family. Automattic, the developer of the WordPress blogging platform, has acquired Irish startup Polldaddy for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase gives WordPress an infusion of polling technology and seems to be justified simply on the basis that bloggers love polls.

PollDaddy -- which is not related to domain registration and Web hosting service GoDaddy — has been used to create around 1 million polls, which have garnered 195 million votes to date.

The company’s polling service will be more tightly integrated with the WordPress platform, while also continuing to support MySpace, Ning, Blogger, Typepad and other services.

The PollDaddy team has posted an explanation about the acquisition which notes that PollDaddy servers have been shifted to the Automattic data center.

Matt notes that PollDaddy is available  as a plugin for  WordPresshosted customers and the first version is also available very soon for self-hosted customers.
